Dennis D. Bradshaw

Dennis Dean Bradshaw was born June 3, 1943, to Oris and Kathryn Bradshaw in Fort Dodge, Iowa. He passed away peacefully at St. Anthony Regional Hospital on February 8, 2016, after a short battle with cancer. He was united in marriage to his wife of 45 years, Connie (Jensen) Bradshaw on June 13, 1970, at Zion Lutheran Church, Arcadia, Iowa. They made their home in Westside and moved to Carroll in 1987.
He was raised on their farm west of Dayton, Iowa, and graduated from Dayton High School in 1961. He attended and graduated from Buena Vista College in Storm Lake in 1966. In the fall of 1966 he began his teaching career at Ar-We-Va Community Schools, Westside, Iowa, where he taught junior high and high school social studies for 36 years. He also coached varsity boys basketball, assistant varsity football, varsity baseball, junior high football, junior high boys basketball, assistant varsity girls track, and was sponsor for the Ar-We-Va chapter of National Honor Society. In 1990 he was selected to receive the Taft award as state junior high football coach of the year. He was inducted into the Ar-We-Va Wall of Fame in 2003. Dennis enjoyed officiating high school football. During his 26 years of officiating he and his crew were selected to officiate three state championship games and the Shrine All-Star game. In 2010 he was inducted into the Iowa High School Athletic Association’s Officials Hall of Fame.
A loyal Hawkeye fan, he enjoyed watching the Hawks on TV and occasionally in person. He especially enjoyed attending the Outback Bowl in 2008 and the Orange Bowl in 2010. He loved to golf and was an avid Packer fan. Dennis and Connie also loved to travel making multiple trips to Las Vegas, Osage Beach, and several cruises. They also traveled to London with the youth basketball team he helped coach.
Dennis is survived by his wife, Connie, a brother Ronald and his wife Gloria, sisters-in law Jeane and Pat, brothers-in-law John and Barry, his aunt Opal, mother-in-law Leta, and many cousins, nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were his parents, a sister, Lisa, brother-in-law Delos, father-in-law Wallace and several aunts, uncles, a nephew, grand nephews, and cousins.
