Dennis (Loby) Ray Lobaugh was born December 27, 1951, the son of Donald and Louise Kapaska Lobaugh. He died Monday, October 19, 2009, at Creighton Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska, at the age of fifty-seven.
Dennis was born in Nevada, Iowa. He received his education in Orient, Iowa, and graduated from Orient Macksburg Community High School with the class of 1970. He attended Northwest Missouri State in Maryville, Missouri, and graduated in 1973 from Kirkwood College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
On June 3, 1973, he was united in marriage to Linda Johnk at the United Church of Christ in Oakland, Iowa. The couple was blessed with the birth of three children. He worked as a security guard for Pinkertons at the Duane Arnold Nuclear Energy Plant in Cedar Rapids until moving to Denison, Iowa, in 1974 to work for the Denison Police Department. In 1982 he began his own business of auto salvage, sandblasting and painting of heavy equipment.
He was a loving and caring husband, father and grandfather, and looked forward to socializing with family and friends. One of his favorite activities was spending time with his grandson, Derek, going zoom-zoom to pick flowers for Grandma. He enjoyed hunting in the region and fishing in farm ponds.
Dennis was preceded in death by his father. He is survived by his wife, Linda of Dow City; two sons: Dana Lobaugh and his wife, Janeen of Irwin, Iowa; Darren Lobaugh and his wife, Amanda of Council Bluffs, Iowa; and one daughter, Diana Lobaugh of Omaha; three grandchildren, Derek, Jamison and Carter; his mother, Louise Lobaugh of Kennesaw, Georgia; one brother, Larry Lobaugh and his wife, Cheryl of Rancho Cucamonga, California; one sister, Nancy Gayler and her husband Richard of Kennesaw, Georgia; other relatives and friends.
