DeWayne Arthur Krueger was born on June 24, 1944, the son of Martin and Elsie (Plotz) Krueger in Carroll, Iowa. He was baptized and later confirmed into the Lutheran faith. He was raised in Westside and attended Westside High School until he was pulled to work on the family farm to help make ends meet.
DeWayne met the love of his life, Sonja Tyler at The Koffee House in Omaha and they were married on May 2, 1964, at Zion Lutheran Church in Denison. The couple spent time living in Omaha, Nebraska; Janesville, Wisconsin; and lastly, Kenwood, Iowa where they spent the remainder of their life. DeWayne started D&J Plumbing and Heating in Denison and worked there for many years. After closing that business, he started working at Farmland Foods. The couple then purchased JC's Prime Rib and renamed the restaurant to DewSonies, all while working his fulltime job at Farmland Foods. After selling DewSonies and retiring from Farmland, he built A&K Service and purchased the Pit Stop, renaming it to Raceway Food and Spirits in Dow City.
DeWayne enjoyed car shows and the challenge of fixing up older vehicles. He was a smart and hardworking man who had knowledge in several trades and even took the time to build his own home. Some of his favorite things were fishing, camping, sitting around campfire and drinking beer with friends. Above all, he cherished spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
DeWayne passed away on Friday, April 26, 2024, at the Denison Care Center in Denison, Iowa at the age of 79 years, 10 months and two days.
