Don Hansman

Douglas Donald Hansman was born at St Anthonys Hospital in Carroll, Iowa, on December 2, 1935. The son of Carl Fredrick and Hazel Elizabeth (Dixon) Hansman. He died on Friday, September 30, 2011, at St Anthonys Hospital in Carroll, Iowa, at the age of 75 years, 9 months and 28 days. He was raised on the family farm north of Westside and graduated from the Westside Consolidated High School with the Class of 1955.
On April 7, 1956, Don was united in marriage with Edna Ann Nobiling at Zion Lutheran Church in Arcadia, Iowa. They were blessed with four children Carol Jean (deceased), Douglas Lee, Lisa Kay, and Tammy Sue.
Don farmed north of Westside most of his life. Don was a very active member of the Crawford County Pork Producers for many years which he really enjoyed. He was a REC meter reader and worked at Iowa Coolers after moving to Westside in 1999.
He enjoyed attending his grandchildrens ball games and other activities after moving to town. He entered the Denison Care Center November 9, 2009, after recovering from a stroke on March 17, 2006.
He is survived by his wife, Edna of over 55 years; son, Douglas and his wife, Beth; daughters, Lisa Gallagher and her husband, Dave; and Tammy Howard and her husband, Kyle; eight grandchildren, Andrew Gallagher and his wife, Karen; Gregory Hansman and his wife, Brenda; Nick Gallagher and his wife, Jessica; Lucas, Heather and Hope Hansman; Hailey and Ethan Howard; and two great-grandchildren, Alex and Payton Gallagher. Also surviving is his sister-in-law, Emogene (Auen) Hansman; several nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents Carl and Hazel (Dixon) Hansman; daughter, Carol Jean at 6 weeks of age; brothers, Myrlin and Harold (Bud) Hansman and sister Maxine (Lester) Brockman, also his father and mother-in-law, Elmer and Eva (Fischer) Nobiling.
