Donald Albert Eck was born November 6, 1934, at Schleswig, Iowa, the son of Albert and Caroline Eck. He passed away Friday, August 9, 2019, at Eventide Lutheran Home in Denison, at the age of eighty-four.
Don was baptized in Christ December 2, 1934, by Pastor E.F. Schwedder and confirmed his faith April 2, 1950, at Zion Lutheran Church in Denison by Pastor C.W. Schmidt. He received his education in the country school near his home for eight years and then attended Denison High School where he graduated with the class of 1953. Don was united in marriage to Beverly Kroll August 22, 1954, at St. John Lutheran Church in Charter Oak by Pastor W.P. Schroeder. To this union, four children were born: Lanette, Kevin, Keith and Lanice.
A farmer in Milford Township outside of Vail all of his married life, Don loved all aspects of farming, especially Allis Chalmers tractors. He was a good steward of the soil. Don was a long-time Hoegemeyer Hybrids dealer and worked as a crop adjuster for Hartford for a number of years prior to retirement. Don and Bev retired from the farm to Denison in 2003 and he had been a resident of Eventide for the last five years.
Don was a former member of Zion Lutheran Church in Denison and currently was a long-time member of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Denison. He was very instrumental in the building of this new church in the early ‘70's and also served in various offices (including President), as an elder and as an usher. He served on the Farm Service Coop Board for a number of years, with a special fondness for General Manager Spence Vanderlinden. Don was very accomplished and proud of his woodworking. Many pieces of furniture, built-in bookcases, wall hangings, Christmas ornaments and cabinets were made and shared with many neighbors, close friends and relatives.
Preceding him in death were his parents; son, Kevin; sister, Lois and her husband, Harold; son-in-law, Ron; and father-in-law and mother-in-law, Walter and Sadie. Survivors include: his wife, Beverly; two daughters, Lanette (Gene), and Lanice (Gerry); one son, Keith (Lori); one daughter-in-law, Tami (special friend, Kevin); ten grandchildren: Jared (Heather), Joshua (Katie), Brandon (Alissa), Kelby (special friend Leah), Dillon (Abby), Madison (fianc Justin), Annie, Reggie (Cori), Elliott and Cooper; nine great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
