Donald "Dean" Hensley

Donald Dean Hensley was born August 11, 1930, the son of George and Bernice Hensley. He died Wednesday, June 26, 2019, at the Eventide Lutheran Home in Denison, Iowa, at the age of eighty-eight.
Dean was born in Bedford, Iowa and was baptized into the Christian faith April 6, 1947 at the First Christian Church in Bedford. He received his education in the Bedford High School, graduating with the class of 1948. On October 23, 1951, Dean entered the United States Army serving with the 29th heavy tank battalion and was honorably discharged on September 25, 1953.
On December 31, 1950, Dean was united in marriage to Gretchen Timberlake. The couple was blessed with the birth of one son. The couple made their home in Dow City, Iowa, where Dean was employed as a hog buyer for Farmland Foods.
Dean was a member of the First Christian Church in Bedford. He was very intelligent and had a great interest in history and studying different religions. Dean loved to socialize and was always ready to lend a helping hand, and was known by all as “Deano”. He enjoyed singing and had a great voice and loved vegetable and flower gardening. He was an animal lover at heart, especially for dogs.
Dean was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Albert and Hubert and one sister, Coryl. Survivors include his son, Tom; one granddaughter, Amanda; great-grandchildren; good friends, Richard and Maryann and their family; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
