Donald H. Korner

April 23, 1923 — August 16, 2013

Donald Herman Korner was born April 23, 1923, the son of Arthur and Minnie Neubauer Korner. He died Friday, August 16, 2013 at the Creighton University Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska at the age of 90.
Don grew up on the family farm and received his education in a rural school near his home. After completing his education, he remained on the family farm, helping his parents with the farming operations. In the early 70's, while continuing farming near Schleswig, he began trucking. At first, he drove for others and then purchasing his own truck and running a trucking operation for himself. He semi-retired in the 90's.
September 8, 1946, he was united in marriage to Dorothy Namanny at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Grant Township. The couple settled on the family farm south of Schleswig and was blessed with the birth of three children. They remained on the family farm until moving to Schleswig in 1992. He was a forth wright man with self-assurance. He and Dorothy enjoyed various kinds of dancing. On Saturday evenings they could be found in one of the regional dance halls enjoying such dances as the Jitter Bug, Polka’s and Waltzes. They also enjoyed playing cards and were members of the 500 club. Socializing with acquaintances was a focus in his life. His favorite meeting places included the regional sale barns in Denison, Mapleton and Irwin where they met with some special friends. In his leisure time, he enjoyed fishing in local ponds with his grandchildren, playing checkers with his family where he did not enjoying losing.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one son, Dennis in 2010. Survivors include: his wife, Dorothy of Denison, one son, Mike Korner and his wife, Kathy of Schleswig; one daughter, Connie Gustafson and her husband, Mark of Fort Dodge, Iowa; five grandchildren: Rob and Rita and their children, Dallas and Colton; Brad and Heidi and their children Grayson and Kayley; Kim and Jerod and their children Tanner, Sadie and Jaden; Curtis and Angela and their children, Austin, Calli and Kara; and Jason and Tammy and their children Tyler and Derek; other relatives and many friends.
