Denison

Donald C. Hollrah, affectionately known as Don, was born on July 1, 1930, to Carl H. and Anna C. (Clausen) Hollrah in rural Charter Oak, Iowa.

Don answered the call to serve his country by enlisting in the United States Army on January 19, 1951. During the Korean War, Don served honorably until his discharge on December 18, 1952. His military service instilled in him values of discipline, resilience, and commitment that would resonate throughout his entire life.

After returning home, Don began his journey in farming, which marked the beginning of a long-standing relationship with the land and community. Don united in marriage to JoAnn Hamann and two sons were born to this union, Brian and James. Eventually, the couple moved to Omaha, where Don established a successful carpentry business. His craftsmanship and work ethic were evident in all he undertook, and his endeavors in carpentry became a proud aspect of his identity.

In addition to his work in carpentry, Don had a passion for antiques, engaging in the buying and selling of treasured items that often told stories of the past. For a while, he operated this business in Nebraska City, NE. This pursuit not only diversified his career but also brought joy and connection to those who shared similar interests.

Don's life is a testament to unwavering dedication, whether through his service to his country, his commitment to his work, or his love for his family and community. He will be remembered fondly by all who knew him as a man of honor, a skilled craftsman, and a passionate collector whose legacy will endure in the hearts of those he touched.

Don passed away peacefully on September 26, 2024, at the Denison Care Center having attained the age of 94 years, two months, and 25 days. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sons, Brian and James Hollrah; brothers, Leland and Vernon Hollrah, sisters, Evelyn Mundt Meyer and Aldene Winquist and former wife, JoAnn Hollrah.
