Donald Peter Herman Teut was born February 7, 1923, the son of Irwin J. and Emma J. Carstens Teut. He passed away at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison, Iowa, on Wednesday, June 29, 2011, at the age of eighty-eight.
Donald was born on the family farm near Ricketts, Iowa. He was baptized in Christ on April 8, 1923, at St. John Lutheran Church in Charter Oak, Iowa, and later confirmed there on April 5, 1936. His elementary education began at the Soldier Country School #6. He attended 7th and 8th grade at St. John Lutheran School in Charter Oak, and graduated from Charter Oak High School with the class of 1940. Donald was united in marriage to Evelyn Christiansen at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Schleswig, Iowa, on June 16, 1946. They farmed in the Ricketts area for many years and were blessed with the birth of six children. In May of 1970, Donald and Evelyn purchased and operated the Dari Creme Drive-In in Schleswig, Iowa, until their retirement in 1985. The couple celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary on June 16.
Donald immensely enjoyed traveling together with his wife, Evelyn. They took a memorable vacation to Hawaii and loved trips across the United States in their RV. Fishing, gardening, reading, and playing cards were other favorite pastimes that kept him busy. He especially treasured the time spent with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, taking them along on many camping trips. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Schleswig; and a charter member of St. Luke Lutheran Church in Ricketts, where he held many offices.
Donald was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Dorothy; four brothers-in-law; and one sister-in-law. He is survived by his wife, Evelyn of 65 years; two sons: Deane and his wife, Connie; and Dennis and his wife, Cheri; and four daughters: Diane and her husband, Denny; Connie and her husband, Doug; Cheryl and her husband, Denny; and Cynthia and her husband, Bruce; 15 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law: Arlene; and Marilyn and her husband, Herman; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
