Donald Wayne Clark was born September 6, 1920, the son of James A. Clark and Etta Alvera Clark. He passed away at the Dunlap Care Center in Dunlap, Iowa, Saturday, April 7, 2018, at the age of 97 years, 7 months and 1 day.
Donald was born on the family farm in Boyer Township, Crawford County, Iowa, the fourth born of eight living children. He graduated from Dow City High School in 1938. After high school, he went to Waterloo, Iowa, to work at Rath Packing Plant.
He was united in marriage to Mary Cleota “Tote” Brasel, the daughter of Elmer N. Brasel and Anne L. Brasel on May 24, 1941, at St. Patrick Catholic Church Rectory in Dunlap, Iowa. To this union was born four children, two daughters and two sons. When first married, they lived in Waterloo, Iowa, where LaDonna was born. Later in 1942, they moved to a farm south of Dunlap, Iowa. In May of 1943, Janet was born. After four years, they moved to the Shea farm, where they resided until 1956. In 1957, they purchased their farm in Paradise Township and farmed there until retiring to Dow City in 1969.
Don enjoyed going to farm sales, visiting with family and friends and traveling to see the grandchildren. Don and Tote traveled to Florida for 33 winters. Don continued to go to their Bradenton, Florida, home for three years after Tote passed away. He truly loved being there, for the sunny, bright, warm winter days. He would say “Ah, another day in Paradise.”
Don was preceded in death by his wife, Tote; his parents; two infant sons, Donald Wayne Jr. and Leonard Leo; four brothers, Russell and his wife, Beth, James and his wife, Percilla, Louis and his wife, Barbara and Richard and his wife, Patsy; one sister, Marion and her husband, Edwin; one brother-in-law, Don; one sister-in-law, Faye; one son-in-law, Gary; and two grandchildren, Jason and Marissa. Survivors include: two daughters, LaDonna Mary and her husband, Frank, and Janet Carol; six grandchildren, Andrea and her husband, Michael, Matthew, Kirk, Mitchell and his wife, Julie, Carissa and her husband, Douglas, and Jordan and his wife, Jen; eight great-grandsons, Samuel, Spencer, Sawyer, Grant, Luke, Benjamin, Nolan and Milo; one sister, Helen; one brother, Francis; one sister-in-law, Mary Jane; numerous nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.
