Donavon G. Weed, 85, of Norfolk died Tuesday, March 19, 2013, at Faith Regional Health Services.
Donavon G. Weed was born Jan. 19, 1928, at Charter Oak, Iowa, to Charles H. Weed and Lillian M. (Aronson) Weed. He graduated from Dow City High School, Dow City, Iowa.
He married Donna Mae H. Namanny at Elk Point, S.D., on Oct. 23, 1954.
Following their marriage, the couple made their home in Sioux City, Iowa, where Donavon worked at Missouri Valley Steel Company for the next 45 years. Upon retirement, he and his wife moved to Hot Springs, Ark., where they lived for 10 years. They then moved to Waverly for three years and had just moved to Norfolk prior to his death.
He had served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War Feb. 7, 1951, to Jan. 22, 1953, and was honorably discharged. He was a member of Peace Lutheran Church of Waverly.
Survivors include his wife, Donna Mae; two daughters, Cheryl and husband Rod Sherbourne of Albion, Nebraska; and Gayle and husband Bob Shantz of Hornick, Iowa; one son, Rodney and wife Caren Weed of Omaha, Nebraska; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; one brother, Norman and wife Floy Weed of Tucson, Ariz.; one brother-in-law, William and wife Audrey Namanny; four sisters-in-law, Marcella and husband Melvin Petersen, Dorothy Namanny, Shirley Ahart and LaDene Hickey; many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Lillian Weed; two brothers, Clarence Weed and Charles Bud Weed; and two sisters, Virginia Moeller and Jean Cross.
