Dorathy Hulsebus

Dorathy Ida Kathryn Hulsebus was born January 5, 1921, the daughter of Herman and Hattie Kahl. She died Saturday, June 11, 2016, at the Eventide Lutheran Home in Denison, Iowa, at the age of ninety-five.
Dorathy was born in Denison, Iowa. She was baptized into Christ January 31,1921, at Zion Lutheran Church in Denison, and later confirmed April 5, 1936. She meet the love of her live at a dance and on March 9, 1941, Dorathy was united in marriage to Joseph Boyd Hulsebus. The couple made their home on a farm near Buck Grove, Iowa and were blessed with the birth of six children.
Dorathy was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who loved spending time with her family. She enjoyed quilting and crocheting, was a member of Zion’s quilting group, baking fudgens, chocolate chip pie, bread and making thin pancakes were her home making specialties. She also enjoyed flower gardening, especially growing roses and irises, vegetable gardening with strawberries, apple trees and pear trees, and raising cattle, chickens and ducks. In her younger years she enjoyed playing cards with neighbors and going to local barn dances with her husband. After the death of her husband in 1991, Dorathy moved to Denison and enjoyed traveling on bus tours. She was also diligent at writing daily journals about the weather and family events.
Dorathy was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; infant daughter, Kathryn; one son, Ronald; one daughter, Shirley; one grandson, Jason; one sister, Irene; two brothers, Earl and Herman; and two brothers-in-law, Glenn and Robert. Survivors include two daughters: Beverly and her husband, Larry; and Deborah and her husband, Phillip; one son, Richard and his wife, Cathy; twelve grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; two sisters: Norma and Donna, one brother-in-law, Arlyn; two sisters-in-law, Doris and Dorothy.
