Dorothy Eleonora Brown was born March 14, 1925, at Charter Oak, Iowa, the daughter of Gustav and Dorothy Kuhlmann. She passed away Friday, June 8, 2018, at her home in Dow City, Iowa, at the age of ninety-three, surrounded by her loving family.
She was baptized in Christ April 12, 1925, and also confirmed her faith April 2, 1939, at St. John Lutheran Church in Charter Oak. Dorothy grew up on the family farm near Charter Oak and attended country school and also St. John Lutheran School. She was united in marriage to Donald Brown May 17, 1952, at the Zion Lutheran parsonage in Denison, Iowa. She was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church.
Dorothy was a life long homemaker, caring for her family. She also worked as a waitress, at World Wide Meats and Job Corps. Dorothy had a special love for her family. She spent time playing Canasta, UNO, and solitaire as well as marbles with them. Her favorite pastimes were reading, embroidering, listening to waltz and polka music, and watching Wheel of Fortune and Walker Texas Ranger.
Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Donald; one son, Dennis; one granddaughter, Kylie; one great-grandson, Cash; one son-in-law, Bill; and two brothers, Walter; Wilbur and his wife, Betty. Survivors include: six children: Sandra; Sheryl and her husband, Larry; Lynnette; Pam and her husband, Randy; Ron; and Tamara and her husband, Kyle; sixteen grandchildren; twenty-nine great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; one daughter-in-law, Cynthia; one sister, Marjorie; two brothers, Gustav and his wife, Trish, and Roger and his wife, Lu; two sisters-in-law, Babe and Bernice; other relatives and friends.
