Dorothy H. Riessen

Dorothy Hilda Hedwig Riessen was born February 23, 1926, the daughter of Henry and Dora Riessen. She passed away Monday, February 1, 2016, at the Eventide Lutheran Home in Denison at the age of eighty-nine.
Dorothy was born on a farm in Otter Creek Township near Schleswig, Iowa. She was baptized into faith April 25, 1926, by the Rev. Firnhaber and confirmed March 17, 1940, by Rev. E.F. Schwedder at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Schleswig.
For many years Dorothy was a cook at the Schleswig School and a waitress at Angie’s Caf, which she enjoyed very much. While employed at the school she also cleaned homes which she continued to do after retiring from the school. She found great solace in caring of others in need by helping them clean or iron. She enjoyed socializing with family and friends over a good game of cards, coffee, and her freshly baked cookies and muffins. Dorothy also enjoyed crossword puzzles and dominoes.
Dorothy is preceded in death by her parents; two sisters: Viola and Delores; brothers and sisters-in-law: Sonny in infancy, Erwin and Hank; Ernie and his wife, Delores; Herbie and his wife, Reva; Harold and his wife, Emmy. Survivors include: two sisters-in-law, Elfie and Marian; nineteen nieces and nephews; many other relatives and friends.
