Dorothy J. Kuehnhold

Dorothy Jean Kuehnhold was born May 31, 1940, in Ida Grove, Iowa, the daughter of Clifford and Lydia Jensen Miller. She passed away Sunday, September 15, 2019, at Eventide Lutheran Home in Denison, Iowa, at the age of seventy-nine.
Dorothy was baptized in Christ June 23, 1940, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Ida Grove, Iowa, and later confirmed her faith there April 11, 1954. She received her education in the Galva-Holstein High School from which she graduated. Following graduation, she entered the United States Navy July 27, 1959, and attended Hospital Corps School in Great Lakes, Illinois from November of 1959 until February of 1960. She worked in the U.S. Naval Hospital in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, until she was honorably discharged as an HN (E-3) September 14, 1960.
While serving in the Navy, Dorothy was united in marriage to Wayne McLaughlin Sr. December 5, 1959. After her discharge from the Navy, Dorothy was a homemaker as well as being employed at Safeway and selling Avon and Tupperware products. She was also involved with Al-Anon, CASA for domestic violence and Genesis for the developmentally disabled. After her retirement, she made jewelry.
Years ago, she loved camping and was a Coachman Camper Dealer and would set up camping sites for Coachman buyers. Her hobbies included: sewing, crocheting and needlepoint and she enjoyed the classic television shows. Dorothy was a member of the Sweet Adelines singing group traveling with them and participated in the Sound of Music, a play presented in Denison.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Floyd Miller. Survivors include: two daughters, Tamara Freidhof and her husband, Darryl of Lakeside, Iowa, and Chandra Younie and her husband, Matt of Storm Lake, Iowa; two sons, Wayne McLaughlin and his wife, Colleen of Denison, Iowa, and Frank McLaughlin and his partner, Michael Prier of Lenexa, Kansas; ten grandchildren: Ryan McLaughlin, Justin Freidhof, Rachelle Thomas, Shane Younie, Corey McLaughlin, Brandon Younie, Chantel Younie, Kurtis McLaughlin, April Rasdon and Christina McLaughlin; eighteen great-grandchildren: Olivia Hackney, Ethan Younie, Caydence Younie, Dawson Younie, Carter Younie, Cole McLaughlin, Aiden McLaughlin, Joran McLaughlin, Dillon Asbury, Faith Asbury, Hope Self, Adrian Rodrigues, Jayden Rodrigues, Jasmin Rodrigues, Kaci Rasdon, Ava Eakes, Liam McLaughlin and Willow Willmott; ex-husband, Wayne McLaughlin Sr. and his wife, Rose of Belle Plaine, Iowa; four sisters, Angela Goodman of Arthur, Iowa, Patricia Schmidt and her husband, Gerald of Arizona, Valarie Boggess and her husband, Bruce of Colorado and Julianna Mefferd and her husband, Brian of Ida Grove, Iowa; two brothers, Dennis Miller and his wife, Melena of California and Bruce Miller and his wife, Karen of Iowa; other relatives and friends.
