Dorothea Clara Hilda Miller was born April 24, 1922, the daughter of Bernhard and Marie Bohlmann Carstensen. She died Wednesday, March 23, 2011, at the Eventide Lutheran Home in Denison, Iowa, at the age of eighty-eight.
She was born on the family farm near Charter Oak, Iowa. The family moved to Ricketts, Iowa, where she attended Ricketts Public School through the eighth grade. She was baptized and confirmed in Christ at Immanuel Lutheran Church (Soldier Township) in Charter Oak. After school she worked at Mohlmans Caf in Ricketts.
Dorothy was united in marriage to Harold Miller on October 20, 1940. The couple was blessed with two children. They farmed around the Denison area until moving into Denison in 1976. They worked for the Denison Newspaper as mail carriers from 1979 to 1991.
She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, treasuring the time with her family and special friends. She was an excellent cook and loved to bake, especially homemade bread and pies. In her spare time, she enjoyed canning, yard work, watching "Dancing with the Stars," ice skating, and NASCAR races on TV, and listening to polka music. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Denison.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Harold in 1991; one son-in-law, Eugene; one brother, Vernon; and one brother-in-law, Charles. Survivors include one daughter, Janice and her husband, David; one son, Glen; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; one sister, Deloris; other relatives and friends.
