After completing his education he helped his father on the family farm. He served with the Iowa National Guard from January 1956 to January 1963. DuWayne was united in marriage to Marilyn Meadows at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Ute, Iowa, on June 1, 1958. They made their home in Ute, until purchasing a farm north of town in the early 1960s. The couple was blessed with the birth of four children. In January 2001, the couple purchased a home in Ute. Marilyn passed away on December 18, 2002. He also served on the Charter Oak-Ute School Board from 1984 - 1992, Eventide Board, the Board of Directors at the Ute State Bank from 1983 and the Community Bank since 2002. He loved his Lord and Savior, inspiring all those he touched with the confidence he had in his salvation. These trips were to help build schools and repair churches. Of all his trips Nicaragua held his heart, especially his love for the children. DuWayne loved farming and farmed throughout his life.
