Earl Keesling

Earl Warren Keesling was born September 5,1922, the son of Ernest and Edna Judy Keesling. He passed away at his home in Denison, Iowa, on Tuesday, June, 18, 2013, at the age of 90.
Earl was born in Denison, Iowa. He was baptized in Christ at Zion Lutheran Church in Denison on October 1, 1922, and later confirmed at St. John Lutheran Church in Stockholm Township on February 20, 1938. He received his education in the Deloit schools graduating with the class of 1941. Earl enlisted in the U.S. Army on March 28, 1943, serving his country during WWII and received his honorable discharge on February 15, 1946. He was united in marriage to Margaret Christiansen at Zion Lutheran Church in Denison on October 6, 1946, by Rev. C.W. Schmidt and to this union was born seven children. Earl worked for several grocery stores in his younger years; an auto parts store; drove truck for Tenhulsen; delivered papers, and worked as a custodian at all three Denison schools, retiring from the high school.
Earl enjoyed fishing, playing Bingo, and card games such as Euchre, Pitch, Rummy, and Pinocle. He often shared with his family how much he appreciated growing up on the farm. Earl had a green thumb which was evidenced in his flower gardens, especially his rosebushes, as well as his vegetable gardens. Earl and Margaret loved to travel and were able to visit 48 of the 50 U.S. States. They loved to go to dances with polkas being their favorite. Earl liked to watch Wheel of Fortune and Lawrence Welk on television. He was an active member of Faith Lutheran Church in Deloit having served as Elder, President and Vice-President of the Congregation, and Treasurer.
Earl was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Margaret in March 2013, and three sisters, Alice Neumann; Cleo Peters; and Erna Mae Aldag. Survivors include seven children: Stephen Keesling and his wife, Jackie; and Paula Segebart and her husband, Jerry; all of Deloit; Gary Keesling and his wife, Deb of Denison; Denise Wimer and her husband, Lynn of Montgomery, Texas; Dawn Berrier and her husband, Mark of Deloit; Loren Keesling of Denison; and Kevin Keesling and his wife, Cassandra of Des Moines, Iowa; 14 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; two step grandchildren; 13 step great-grandchildren; six step great-great grandchildren; two brothers, Ervin Keesling of Missouri; and Wayne Keesling and his wife, Pearl of Deloit; Iowa; one sister, Francis Ramaden of Sioux City, Iowa; one brother-in-law, Kenneth Aldag of Denison; other relatives and friends.
