Eileen E Grell

Eileen Ellen Grell was born April 14, 1926, the daughter of Otto and Esther Alquist Dose. She passed away Tuesday, June 17, 2014, at the Eventide Lutheran Home in Denison, Iowa, at the age of eighty-eight.
Eileen was born in Smithland, Iowa. She was baptized into her Christian faith at the home of her grandfather, William on September 23, 1928, and later confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Ida Grove, Iowa, April 6, 1941. She received her education in a rural school near her home. After completing her education she worked at Bishop’s Cafeteria in Sioux City, Iowa for a short time. Eileen was united in marriage to Leslie Grell on February 23, 1947. The couple made their home on the family farm near Schleswig, Iowa and were blessed with the birth of two daughters. In 2003, the couple purchased a home in Schleswig.
Eileen loved spending time with her grandchildren. She was an excellent bread baker and loved working in her vegetable and flower gardens. In her leisure time she enjoyed crocheting and embroidering. She was devoted to her Lord and Savior as evidenced by the many years of service she shared with her church through the teaching of Sunday School at Trinity Lutheran Church, Grant Township, Ida Grove and as a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Schleswig, their Ladies Aid and their quilting group. She was also a member of the Crawford County Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, Social Group at the Schleswig Golf Club and at Cheetas. In earlier years, Leslie and Eileen enjoyed square dancing, fishing and wintering in Texas. Eileen worked at the Horn Memorial Hospital in Ida Grove, Iowa and was a Certified CNA.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Leslie in 2008; son-in-law, Bruce; sister, Marie and her husband, Paul; brother, LeRoy; brother-in-law, Robert and nephew, Mark. Survivors include: two daughters, Janice and her husband, Loren; and Ruth; four grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, one great great-grandchild; one sister, Darlene; sister-in-law, Helen; special nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.
