Dorothy Elaine Richardson, affectionately known as Elaine, was born on August 20, 1949, in Ponca, Nebraska. She was the third of eight children to Kenneth and Violet (Sherman) Stapleton. Elaine’s spirit was shaped by the love of her family, and she embraced life with an infectious joy that touched everyone around her. She graduated from Ponco High School. Following high school, she worked as a waitress.
A proud graduate of Ponca High School, Elaine began her career as a waitress, where her friendly demeanor and genuine care for others shone brightly. She later dedicated 15 years to WESCO Industries, where her commitment and hard work were recognized and appreciated.
In 1997, Elaine married James Richardson, finding in him a partner who shared her love for family and life’s simple pleasures. An artistic soul, she found joy in sewing and crafts, creating beautiful pieces that reflected her vibrant spirit. Elaine was also known for her culinary skills, always cooking with love for family gatherings that brought everyone together.
Those who knew Elaine will fondly remember her with an iced tea or a Pepsi in hand, her laughter echoing as she reminisced about the special moments shared with her family while dining out. Her love for her family was boundless, and she cherished every opportunity to create lasting memories with them.
Elaine passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 2, 2024, at Crawford County Memorial Hospital at the age of 75 years.
Elaine was preceded in death by her parents; son, Eric Wright; stepson, Jamie Richardson; and great-great-grandson, Lyle Wilson IV.
She is survived by her son, Doug Leitz (Audra Taylor) of Schleswig; stepchildren: Randy (Mary Joyce) Richardson of Denison and Shelly (Johnny) Rose of Dow City; step-daughter-in-law, Shala Richardson of Council Bluffs; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; best friends: Carol Ann Erickson and Judy Webb; and other family and friends.
Her Celebration of Life Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. and visitation with the family and gathering will take place from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. all at the Denison Senior Center on Saturday, October 26, 2024.
