Eleanor F. Schwenn

Eleanor Faye Schwenn, age 95, passed away September 22, 2020.

She was born on October 25, 1924 to Herman and Esther (Honnaker) Johansen near Woodbine, Iowa.

Eleanor graduated from Woodbine High School. After graduation, Eleanor and her sister, June traveled to Washington DC to work for the Department of National Defense. After returning home, she taught country school for many years. She was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday School and was a part of the Dorcas Society for many years. Eleanor was a 4-H leader for Crawford County and a member of the county extension council of Iowa State.

On February 9, 1946, Eleanor was united in marriage to Alvin Schwenn in Terrill, Iowa. Three children were born to this union; Barbara Francis, Keith and Kenneth Schwenn. Eleanor loved to garden and she had huge vegetable gardens. She was very devoted to her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, Eleanor was preceded in death by her husband, Alvin; son, Keith Schwenn; sister, June Jarvi and brother, Merrill Johansen. She is survived by her daughter, Barbara Francis (Boleslaw Bobolinski) of Des Moines, Iowa and son, Kenneth (Kristol) Schwenn of Neligh, Nebraska. Grandchildren: Matthew (Allana), Jared (Melissa), Nick and Adam (Shannon) Schwenn; Jessica (Bill) Potts and Cassandra Armenta-Schwenn; step-grandson, Charles (Cherokee) LaRue ; great-grandchildren: Joey, Jack, Kaitlyn Jean, Kalvin, Devon, Blake, Taylor Jean and Easton Schwenn; Brynn and Quinn Potts; Haylee and Brianna Schwenn; step great-granddaughters, Carly and Sage Varo; brother, Harold Johansen of Terrill, Iowa; sister-in-law, Irene Stark of Denison, Iowa; many nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
