Elizabeth Arlene TenEyck was born March 22, 1929, the daughter of Ernest and Lela Martin Daugherty. She died at the Denison Care Center in Denison, Iowa, on Friday, April 29, 2011, at the age of eighty-two.
Arlene was born on a farm in Harrison County near Logan, Iowa. She began her education in a rural school near her home and continued her education in the Logan Community High School. On March 25, 1946, she was united in marriage to William John TenEyck in Seneca, Kansas. The couple lived in various places in the Midwest until settling in Dow City, Iowa. They were blessed with the birth of ten children.
In her leisure time Arlene enjoyed playing various card games and Bingo as she visited with her family and friends. She occupied her life with the family she enjoyed as a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She would spend time in various crafts, needlework, and embroidery. Other duties she was involved with around the home included both flower and vegetable gardening, canning, baking bread, cooking, and raising and dressing chickens. She was an active member of the Arion Booster Club, Arion City Council, and served as Arion City Clerk for several years.
She cooked at the Crawford County Home for several years before taking a position at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison, retiring there in 1993 after serving for thirteen years.
Arlene was baptized in Christ June 20, 1976, at the First Congregational Church in Arion. She was an active member of the United Methodist Church in Dow City.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, William in 1974; one grandson, David; great-grandson, Aidan; grandson-in-law, Cory; one daughter-in-law, Phylis; one brother, Marvin; and two half sisters: Faye and Linda. Survivors include six sons: Russell; Robert and his wife, Kathy; Dennis and his wife, Geri; James and his wife, Sue; Terry and his wife, Phyl; Randy and his wife, Vicki; four daughters: Arlinda; Joyce and her husband, Roger; Barbara; Patricia and her husband, Tom; 36 grandchildren; 84 great-grandchildren; and 21 great-great grandchildren; her stepmother, Marie; three half sisters: Virgene and her husband, Gib; Erma Lee and her husband, Al; and Connie; a special friend, Lois; many other relatives and friends.
