Ellen H. Jepsen was born April 26, 1922, the daughter of Theodore and Ella Hopp Meseck. She died Tuesday, April 1, 2014, at the Denison Care Center in Denison, Iowa, at the age of ninety-one.
Ellen was born at her home. She was baptized into faith by Rev. A. Amstein at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Charter Oak, Iowa, on May 22,1922, and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Soldier Township, in Charter Oak, on May 16, 1937 by Rev. H. H. Stahnke. Ellen attended country school and walked to school each day and helped out each day with chores and around the home with her mother and her siblings. She graduated 8th grade on August 16, 1935, following school she continued to help with all activities around the home and farm.
On September 3, 1944, Ellen was united in marriage to Herman Jepsen , the couple was blessed with four sons. She was a very loving and caring mother who was very close to her Lord. She enjoyed raising her four sons and being a dedicated mother providing home cooked meals and baked goods for her family. She loved working in the garden and tending to her vegetables and flowers as well as canning fruits and vegetables.
Ellen was very good at writing and sending letters and loved to collect old receipts. In her later years she enjoyed reading her newspaper. She loved to sing songs and yodel, her favorite being “On Mocking Bird Hill.”
Ellen was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers: Delaine, Merrill, and Henry; three sisters: Margaret, Lila and Lucille. Survivors include four sons: Dennis and his wife, Julieanna; Teddy and his wife. Mary; Michael and his wife, Annie; Steven and his wife, Roberta; eight grandchildren; thirteen great-grand children; one brother Theodore Edgar and wife, Elvera; one sister Deloris, many other relatives and friends.
