Ellen Lahr

May 31, 1934 — August 12, 2020

Ellen Lahr of Dow City, Iowa, was born May 31, 1934, in rural Arion, Iowa, the daughter of Joseph and Loretta Farrell Wolfe. She passed away peacefully Wednesday, August 12, 2020, at Burgess Health Center in Onawa, Iowa, at the age of 86.
Ellen was united in marriage to Dean Lahr on May 27, 1953, in Estes Park, Colorado. Dean was an over-the-road truck driver, therefore, they had lived in numerous locations before settling in Dow City where they made their home. They were blessed with the birth of four sons, Rick, Chuck, Jesse and Dale.
Ellen was employed at the County Home in Arion for 18 years. She held multiple jobs over the years which included cleaning homes and caring for multiple people. She continued to work at the Dow City Post Office and the Brasel Hall until the time of her passing.
Ellen loved her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren along with Rudy whom she referred to as her four-legged grandson. She valued the time she spent with them as well as all her family and friends. She enjoyed socializing with everyone she met. Ellen took great pride in her appearance and was an impeccable dresser adorning herself with accessories and jewelry. She very seldom had a hair out of place and always had her nails polished, this just complimented Ellen’s radiant beauty and love for life. As well as herself, she also kept her home and car immaculate.
Ellen’s hobbies included collecting dolls, salt and pepper shakers and sitting in her swing outside her home, Main Street, Dow City. She had a love for country music and polka shows.
Ellen was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Loretta Wolfe; her husband, Dean in 2002; one son, Rick in 2016; and one grandson, Matthew; along with multiple siblings. Left to cherish her memory include: three sons, Chuck Lahr of Dow City, Jesse (Doreen) Lahr of Gravois Mills, Missouri, and Dale Lahr of Denison; multiple grandchildren and great-grandchildren; one sister, Goldie Anderson; stepsisters, Julie Jepsen (Dennis), Janice Wood (Jr.), and Carol Goeppner; one stepbrother, Kenneth Ransom (Beulah); other relatives and many friends.
