Elsie R. Rickers

Elsie Ruth Rickers was born July 29, 1923, the daughter of Henry and Martha Jons. She passed away Saturday, August 9, 2014, at the Twilight Acers Nursing Home in Wall Lake, Iowa, at the age of ninety-one.
Elsie was born on a farm near Westside, Iowa. She was baptized and confirmed at the Zion Lutheran Church in Arcadia, Iowa. She received her education in a rural school near her home and the Arcadia High School. After completing her education she helped on the family farm and also the nearby neighbors. On December 3, 1946, Elsie was united in marriage to Vernon Rickers at the St. Peters Evangelical and Reformed Church Parsonage in Mapleton, Iowa by Rev. E.G. Otte. The couple made their home on a farm near Westside and was blessed with the birth of four sons.
Elsie was a solitary woman and very devoted wife, mother and grandmother who cared for her family with sincere love. She was the family historian and kept many records about family events. She enjoyed baking bread, reading, embroidering and mail order purchasing of household merchandise. After his retirement in 1974, Elsie and Vernon moved to Westside.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one brother, Melvin and his wife, Opal; two sisters, Luella and her husband, Orvil; and Norma and her husband, Ivan. Survivors include her four sons, Lyle and his wife, Denise; Curtis; Russell and his wife, Diana; and John and his wife, Sheila; 9 grandchildren, Shannon, Tracie, Erin, Lisa, Julie, Heather, Jason, Brian and Brandon; 6 step-grandchildren, Adam, Josh, Tyrel, Jessica, Jessica and Angel; and 20 great-grandchildren; one brother, Dale and his wife, Marilyn; other relatives and friends.
