Emma E. Langholdt

Emma Esther Wellner was born May 28, 1926, to Herman and Anna Wellner on a farm near Ute, Iowa. She died Saturday, November 3, 2018, at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison, Iowa, at the age of ninty-two.
Emma was baptized June 20, 1926 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Ute. She attended Lutheran elementary school in Charter Oak. She was confirmed at St. John Lutheran Church in Charter Oak on March 17, 1940. Emma and Gehart Langholdt were married on April 18, 1948, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Ute. The couple settled on the home farm that has been in the family for 130 years and were blessed with the birth of two children. In 1990, they were semi-retired but continued to live on the farm. In 2013 she moved to the Eventide Lutheran Home in Denison where she resided until the time of her death.
Emma spent her life serving her Lord, her family, and her friends. She was a devoted member of Immanuel Lutheran church, where she participated in Ladies Aid, Lamplighters, LWML, and also taught catechism (confirmation), Sunday School, Vacation Bible School and quilted for the Orphan Grain Train. She enjoyed baking for the annual Ladies Aid Christmas party and church soup supper.
She was an avid gardener planting flowers and a big vegetable garden every year until she moved to Denison. She enjoyed sharing her bounty with anyone in need of it. She also was known for her cooking and baking, especially her rye bread, buns and desserts. Everyone looked forward to coming to her home knowing they would not go away hungry. She enjoyed bowling and fishing into her mid-seventies. She also enjoyed playing cards with her sisters and friends on Sunday afternoons. She will be remembered for always being willing to give a helping hand.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Gehart in 2002; five brothers; Herman and his wife Irene, August, Martin, Ernest and his wife Dorothy, and a brother in infancy; six sisters: Wilhelmina and her husband Earl; Helen and her husband Hubert; Ruth and her husband Benny; Marie and her husband Robert; Esther and her husband Robert; and Dorothy. Survivors include two sons, Steven and his wife, Tammy; Sherwin and his wife, Ann; seven grandchildren: Alison and her husband, Corey, Joshua, Trevor, Andrew, Lauren, Matthew, and Amber; two great-grandchildren, Morgan and Emma; her sister-in-law, Laura; brother-in-law, Delbert; and other relatives and friends.

Memorials may be directed to the Immanuel Lutheran Church, Soldier Township, Charter Oak.
