Erna Mae Aldag was born March 24, 1928, the daughter of Ernest and Edna Mae Judy Keesling. She passed away Monday, December 26, 2011, at the Creighton University Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska, at the age of 83.
Erna Mae was born on the family farm south of Deloit, Iowa. She was baptized in Christ on May 13, 1928, at Zion Lutheran Church, Denison, and later confirmed at St. Johns Lutheran Church Stockholm Township, Deloit, on May 31, 1942. She attended #5 Center School through eighth grade, three years of high school in Deloit, and her senior year in Denison, graduating from Denison High School with the class of 1946. She then attended St. Lukes Nursing School in Sioux City, Iowa, graduating in 1949. She devotedly worked as a Registered Nurse at Eventide Nursing Home and the Crawford County Memorial Hospital, both in Denison, Iowa, caring for people for 33 years.
Erna Mae was united in marriage to Kenneth Aldag on December 4, 1949, at St. John Lutheran Church, Stockholm Township, by Rev. L.S. Winter. This union was blessed with the birth of four children - Glen, Gene, Judy, and Cindy. The couple farmed the home place, raising hogs, chickens, milk cows, and maintaining a large garden.
Erna Mae was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother and enjoyed babysitting for her grandchildren. She was a charter member of Faith Lutheran Church in Deloit and also the Ladies Circle. Erna Mae was a devoted church member at Faith and served her Lord as organist there for 57 years. She also served as Lutheran Womens Missionary League Zone President twice and enjoyed attending district and national conventions. In her spare time Erna Mae liked to do craft work, sew, crochet, beaded crafts, play cards, bible study, and square dance in her earlier years. She also enjoyed visiting with her family and seeing the great grandchildren.
Erna Mae was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Alice and Cleo and her husband, J. Edward; and one brother-in-law Dave. Survivors include her husband, Kenneth; two sons, Glen and his wife, Gloria; and Gene and his wife, Rebecca; two daughters, Judy and her husband, Duane; and Cindy and her husband, David; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; three brothers: Earl and his wife Margaret; Ervin; and Wayne and his wife, Pearl; one sister, Frances; other relatives and friends.
