Ervin Henry Neddermeyer

Ervin Henry Neddermeyer 84, of Schleswig, Iowa passed away peacefully on Saturday July 26, 2014 at his home.
Ervin (Erv) was born June 24, 1930, the second of five children of Robert and Edna Neddermeyer in St. Clair Township, Ute, Iowa. He was baptized and confirmed in faith at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Ute, Iowa. He attended elementary and high school graduating from Ute High School in 1949.
After high school he worked for the railroad, did construction and worked at the packing plant. On January 13, 1951 he enlisted in the Army and served in the 188 Airborne Infantry. He was stationed at Ft. Campbell, Kentucky. He received an honorable discharge and a Parachute National Defense Service medal on January 21, 1954.
He returned home working construction and helping on the family farm. In the summer of 1955 he met Carol (Schultz), they were united in marriage on November 19, 1956at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Schleswig. To this union three children were born, Marc, Dawn, and Todd. He continued with his service to the church serving as Sunday school superintendent, board of elders and president of the congregation. Erv was a Schleswig community club member, serving as president during diamond jubilee, and nine years on the board of directors.
Erv and Carol made their home on the Schultz family farm near Schleswig in 1956. Along with farming Erv worked at Farmland and Empire Feed Store in Denison. In 1986 he went to work full-time for the Secondary Road Division of Crawford County retiring in 2004.
Erv spent a lot of years playing basketball and softball for local town teams. He also was an avid bowler and enjoyed fishing, hunting, and spending time with family.
Survivors include his wife Carol of almost 58 years, three children, Marc; Kay; Dawn (Jeff), Todd (Lisa). Two sisters, Ruth, Mildred; his brother John (Joan). Brother and sister-in-law Curt and Jan. Eight grandchildren, Trista, Matthew, Dustin and Stephanie (Randy). Jessica (David); and Nicole. Cody (Emily), and Tyler. Five great-grandchildren, Gavin, Jaxon, Jace, Jordyn, and Kadence; and numerous nieces, nephew, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Edna Neddermeyer, his sister and brother-in-law Marlene and Wilfred Goslar, brother-in-law and niece Roger and Vicki Lansman and parents-in-law Harold and Vernette Schultz.
