Esther Fitzpatrick

Esther Fitzpatrick was born November 5, 1913, the daughter of Earl and Mary Heffernan Dwine. She died Monday, July 5, 2010, at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison, Iowa, at the age of 98 years and 8 months.
Esther was born in Dow City, Iowa, where she received her education and graduated from Dow City High School in 1932. She married George Blackman and they farmed near Dow City until he passed away in 1951. In 1966 she was united in marriage to Leo Fitzpatrick at St. Mary Catholic Church in Dow City. Leo and Esther continued to farm until they retired in 1990 and moved to Denison.
She held various jobs which included working as a telephone operator, grocery clerk at Bremsers Grocery, office assistant at McCracken Veterinary Clinic, assistant recorder at the Crawford County Courthouse and secretary for Huebner Funeral Home.
Esther loved being a housewife and loving "mother" to many nieces and nephews. Her hobbies were playing cards, cooking, gardening and spending time with her family and friends. She was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Denison.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, George Blackman; her second husband, Leo Fitzpatrick; two brothers: Martin (Bud) Dwine and Leonard Dwine; and three sisters: Mildred Best, Lois Brasel and Katherine Steinkuehler. Survivors include a brother-in-law, Orville Steinkuehler of Dow City; and sister-in-law, Regina Fitzpatrick of Dunlap, Iowa; many beloved nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.
