Esther Emma Marie Gierstorf was born March 27, 1917, the daughter of Christoph and Elizabeth Schwartz Gierstorf. She died at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison, Thursday, November 28, 2013 at the age of ninety-six.
Esther grew up on the family farm, receiving her education in a rural school near her home and at St. Paul Lutheran School. She was Baptized in Christ April 29, 1917 and Confirmed in the Lutheran faith April 13, 1930 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Charter Oak. After completing her education, she helped her family on the farm, worked at Sheleys Caf in Schleswig and worked for various families in the area.
She collected Owls of various materials including ceramic, towels and photographs. In her leisure time, she enjoyed visiting with her family and friends, embroidery, flower gardening and caring for her tomato plants. She also loved games such as word searches, crossword puzzles, and watching TV. She kept current with sporting events and playing BINGO!
Esther enjoyed getting out with her family and going for drives in the country looking over the crops and farm homes. She was a loving daughter and aunt. She cared for her parents while they were alive and has fond memories of playing with the great-nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers: Rinhard and his wife, Mona; Wilbert; Elmer and his wife, Lorraine; Delbert and his wife, Ramona; three sisters, Pauline Meyer and her husband, John; Leona Meyer and her husband, Herbert; and Irma Bornhoft and her husband, Harold. Survivors include: many nieces, nephew’s, and great and great-great nieces and nephews.
