Esther Langholdt

Esther Johanna Henrietta Schultz Langholdt, age 96, of Denison, Iowa, died on March 17, 2010, at Eventide Lutheran Home in Denison.
Esther was born on May 1, 1913, in Morgan Township, Crawford County, Iowa. Her parents were Herman and Marie "Lizzie" Schultz. She grew up in the Schleswig area where she attended country school. She graduated from Schleswig High School in 1931 and attended Morningside College in Sioux City, Iowa. She taught country school at Morgan Township #8.
She was baptized in Christ and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Schleswig. She continued her commitment to the Lord by teaching Sunday school and belonging to the Evening Guild. They transferred to Zion Lutheran Church in Denison. Late in life they transferred to Immanuel Lutheran Church in Soldier Township, rural Charter Oak, Iowa.
Growing up, Esther helped her mother on the family farm. She married Albin Langholdt on October 6, 1940, in Papillion, Nebraska. They were blessed with the birth of one child, Gerald "Jerry" Langholdt. She lived a good Christian life and was blessed to enjoy a loving, Christian marriage.
They lived on the family farm south of Schleswig. She enjoyed farming, gardening, baking and spending time with family and friends. She had beautiful flower gardens and a great love for animals, especially her pets. She had a talent for embroidering, loved square dancing and bowling. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the apple of her eye.
In 1981, they built a new home on Donna Reed Road south of Denison. They planted many trees and flowers, and established many gardens and fruit trees. In May of 2008 she moved to the Reed House and in October 2008 she moved to Eventide Lutheran Home.
Esther was preceded in death by her parents, Herman and Marie "Lizzie" Schultz; two brothers-in-law: Wilbert "Whip" Langholdt and Gehart Langholdt. Survivors include: her husband, Albin Langholdt; son, Gerald "Jerry" Langholdt and his wife, Grace of Schleswig; two grandchildren: Lori Aden and her husband, Scot of Latimer, Iowa; Terry Langholdt and his wife, Brenda of Gretna, Nebraska; six great-grandchildren: Connor and Courtney Aden; and Logan, Dawson, Spencer and Avery Langholdt; two sisters-in-law: Laura Langholdt of Ricketts, Iowa; Emma Langholdt of Charter Oak; and many relatives and friends.
