Esther Margaret Olson was born December 13, 1919, the daughter of Frederick and Marie Feller Laubscher. She passed away Sunday, October 7, 2012, at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison, Iowa, at the age of 92.
Esther was born in Dow City, Iowa. She attended Dow City Community Schools graduating with the class of 1938. Esther was united in marriage to Ambrose J. Keuter in 1939 until he passed away in 1945 in Okinawa during WWII. Esther was united in marriage to Virgil M. Olson on March 23, 1946, at Zion Lutheran Church in Denison by Rev. Schmidt. Esther was baptized and confirmed at Soldier Lutheran Church in Soldier, Iowa. The couple lived in the Dunlap, Iowa, area until moving to the Ute, Iowa, area where they began farming. From Ute they moved to Soldier where they farmed for 18 years before retiring in 1977 to Denison, first to a farm and then in 1982 into town.
Esther worked hard on the farm, had a big garden, and was also an active part of the cattle feeding business. She was a very social person and stayed closely involved with her family and friends, adoring her grandchildren. Esther enjoyed caring for people and working with her family even in her later years as she was employed as a homemaker health aide in Crawford County. She liked to play Bingo and visit the casino for fun and was a very avid reader. While living in Denison, Esther was always willing to give people a ride to church. She became a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Dunlap after moving there.
Esther was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Ambrose; her second husband, Virgil; one son-in-law, Bill Seufert; three sisters: Bertha Rank; Emma Remmes; and Pauline Laubscher; two brothers: Fred and Ralph Laubscher. Survivors include three children: Marie Adkins and husband, David of Dunlap, Iowa; Jack Keuter and his wife, Phyllis of Creston, Iowa; and Joyce Olson of Shelby, Iowa; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and eighteen great-great grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Irene Laubscher of Dunlap and Lois Laubscher of Denison; other relatives and friends.
