Eugene Charles Brandenburg was born July 2, 1938, the son of Carl and Hertha Kuhlmann Brandenburg. He died Saturday, November 7, 2009, at Manilla Manor in Manilla, Iowa, at the age of seventy-one.
Eugene was born in Sioux Rapids, Iowa. He received his education in Westside and was in the last graduating class of Westside High School. He worked as a welder welding stadiums, grain bins, and a pipeline that stretches from Alaska to California. He was united in marriage to his first wife Dorothy Doran and was blessed with the birth of three children.
On July 13, 1999, he was united in marriage to Judy Leonard in Elk Point, South Dakota. Judy got him going on the right path and made sure his partying ended. He was a very loving husband, father and grandfather who loved the simple things in life. Going to a local pond, Okoboji or Storm Lake to enjoy a day of fishing was a way he loved to spend his time. Old country western songs by Willie Nelson and Johnny Cash were his favorites. He enjoyed watching television games shows, comedies, soap operas, football and NASCAR. He also enjoyed spending time with his favorite dog B.B. and swinging in the garage. He was a faithful Lutheran who spent every spring and fall helping at Camp Okoboji in Okoboji, Iowa. He also spent two years in Biloxi, Mississippi helping with the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.
He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers: Donald, Ronald, and Robert. Survivors include his wife, Judy of Manilla, Iowa; one son, Freddie of Minnesota; two daughters: Lisa Marie Garcia of Denver, Colorado; Becky Harris of Cheyenne, Wyoming; two step-daughters: Crystal Keairnes of Lincoln, Nebraska; Barbara Simerson and her husband, Kyle of Manilla, Iowa; three brothers: Kenneth of Vero Beach, Florida; Delbert and his wife, Linda, of Hillsboro, Ohio; David and his wife, Marilyn of Anna, Texas; sister-in-law, Idamae Fake and her husband, Tom of Denison; seventeen grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; and ten adopted grandchildren who called him papa; other relatives and friends.
