Eugene Rueben Malone was born on February 16, 1934, the son of Lewis and Viola (Keiner) Malone in Paradise Township, Iowa. He was baptized and confirmed into the Lutheran faith. Gene received his education from a rural country school in Paradise Township. He spent time in the United States Army until his honorable discharge in 1957.
On February 14, 1960, he was united in marriage to Marlene Hageman at St. John Lutheran Church in Charter Oak. He began his career working at the elevators in Dow City and Dunlap, but his true passion was always farming. In pursuit of that calling, he also worked for many local farmers in the area. In 1962, he fulfilled his dream when he purchased his own farm north of Dow City, where he and Marlene made their home.
Gene cherished his many years of farming, a livelihood he truly loved. Even after his well-earned retirement, he continued to stay active in agriculture by helping Denny Topf with his farming operations. During the summer months, he could often be found in South Dakota, where he spent much of his time putting up hay, a task he genuinely enjoyed.
Gene passed away on Sunday, April 27, 2025, at Homestead Assisted Living in Denison at the age of 91 years, two months and 11 days. He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings: Margie Ellen in infancy, Beverly Miller, Vernon Malone and Richard Malone.
