Evelyn W. Fredericks was born September 21, 1918, the daughter of William and Elfrieda Asmus Prosch. She passed away Sunday, March 11, 2012, at Eventide Lutheran Home in Denison, Iowa, at the age of ninety-three.
Evelyn was born in Paradise Township near Denison, Iowa. She was baptized in Christ on April 12, 1919, at Zion Lutheran Church in Denison, and later confirmed there on March 29, 1931. Evelyn attended country school and Zion Lutheran School through eighth grade. She graduated from Denison High School with the class of 1935. Evelyn furthered her education in the Denison Normal College, graduating with a teaching degree in 1936. She taught in Paradise and Hanover Township schools from 1936 - 1948. Evelyn was united in marriage to Harold Fredericks in Rockport, Missouri on March 22, 1942. The couple settled on a farm in Hanover Township for two years and was blessed with the birth of a son, Dean. In 1950 they moved to Harolds mothers farm and then from 1950-55 they made their home on the Albert Schmidt farm in Goodrich Township. The couple moved to Monterey, California, in 1955 where Evelyn worked at JC Penney and the Del Monte Cannery. In 1969 the family moved back to Denison.
Evelyn was a loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She enjoyed cooking, sewing and taking care of her family. Her disposition was always a happy one and she never spoke a bad word about anyone. Evelyn was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Denison.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her husband of 70 years, Harold of Denison; one son, Dean and his wife, Betty; two grandchildren, Sara and her husband Chris ; and Marc and his wife, Laura; two great-grandchildren, Collin and Molly ; one half-sister, LouAnn; other relatives and friends.
