Evelyn Nelson

Evelyn B. Nelson was born February 6, 1924, in Charter Oak, Iowa, to Earl and Marie Ehrke. She was an only child and was raised on the family farm in Hanover Township. She attended rural school in Charter Oak, graduating in 1942. She married Emery Nelson shortly before he left for overseas service in WWII. From this union four children were born: Dennis, Julie, Earl, and Kathleen.
Emery died in 1983 and Evelyn later moved from the farm into Charter Oak, where she lived until entering the Dunlap Care Center last year. She died there of complications on January 11, 2013, just short of her 89th birthday. For many years Evelyn was a nurse in various local care facilities and the Omaha VA before finally retiring to pursue her hobbies of TriChem and gardening.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband. Survivors include her four children, eleven grandchildren; twenty-seven great-grandchildren; and four great-great grandchildren.
