Florence Griffin

Florence Edith Griffin was born on August 15, 1919, the daughter of George and Ella Erickson Riesssen. She passed away Tuesday, July, 12, 2011, at the Littleton Adventist Hospital in Littleton, Colorado, at the age of ninety-one.
Florence was born in Schleswig, Iowa, and attended rural school near her home. She worked as a housekeeper before meeting the love of her life. On February 26, 1942, Florence was united in marriage to Laurence Griffin in Fremont, Nebraska. The couple made their home in Sioux City, Iowa for two years, then moved back to the Denison, Iowa area. The couple was blessed with the birth of one daughter. Florence was a hard and dedicated worker and enjoyed the 30 years she worked at Jo Mart Steakhouse as a cook.
She was a loving and devoted mother, wife, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother. She enjoyed watching tv, especially Everybody Loves Raymond and other sitcoms, and listening to Johnny Cash, Elvis Presley, and Lawrence Welk. In her younger years she loved dancing to polka music. She loved to serve and cook for others and was known to make delicious cinnamon rolls and pecan rolls. Other activities she enjoyed were flower and vegetable gardening and furniture refinishing. She was a member of a card club through the years and enjoyed playing bridge. She also enjoyed the company of her special dauchsund, Tiny, whom she had for six years.
Florence is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Laurence, in 2003; one great-granddaughter, Alena, four brothers: Leonard; Raymond; Orville; and Milo; and four brothers-in-law: Arlo; Otto; Clement; and Glenn. Survivors include one daughter, Sharon and her husband, Charles; three grandchildren: Brenda and her husband, Mark; Carla and her husband, Rick; Charles Ross, Jr. and his wife, Jody; five great-grandchildren: Ron, Crista, Katie, Lindsay, and Corey; two great-greatgranddaughters, Navaeh and Samantha; one sister, Arlene; one brother, Arlo and his wife, Marlys; six sisters-in-law: Ruth; Alvira; Marie; Eileen; Denise; and Theresa; one brother-in -law, Joe and his wife, Betty; many other relatives and friends.
