Florence Elaine Kepford was born on a farm near Schleswig, Iowa, November 2, 1935, the daughter of Raymond and Esther Henningsen. She died at the Hillcrest Country Estates in Papillion, Nebraska, Tuesday, January 12, 2016 at the age of eighty.
She received her education in the Schleswig Community High School, graduating with the class of 1954. After graduation, Florence worked at the Denison Hotel and then for veterinarians, Dr. Long and Dr. Brown. She subsequently pursued a nursing career and graduated from St. Anthony’s School of Nursing in 1969. She was employed by the Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison until 1975 and then IBP where she worked as a nurse until retiring in 1982.
August 24, 1957, she was united in marriage to Joseph Lingle. The couple settled in Denison, Iowa and was blessed with the birth of two daughters. She was later married to Dwight Kepford, September 2, 1979. After her retirement from IBP, Florence and Dwight enjoyed traveling in their camper throughout the United States. Lake Havasu, Arizona was a special place as well as other areas that included New York, Georgia and California. For a few years during the housing boom in California, the couple enjoyed house sitting.
Florence was devoted to her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ as evidenced by her activities in church that included her membership at Zion Lutheran Church in Denison and their Altar Guild. She was Baptized in Christ December 1, 1935 and later confirmed in the Lutheran faith July 1, 1951. In her leisure time, she enjoyed going to horse shows with her daughter, sporting events with grandchildren, dancing to big band era music, sewing, socializing with friends, cruises, bus tours and simply spending time with her family.
Florence was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Joseph and Dwight; one brother, Gene; one sister Shirley; one grandson, Andrew. Survivors include: two daughters, Linda; Laurie with Dennis; three grandchildren; several step-grandchildren and step great-grandchildren; step-children; Jack and his wife, Pam; Keith and his wife, Mary; Linda and her husband, Scott; Larry and his wife, Peg; Mark and his wife, Denise; Shirley and her husband, Larry; one sister, Marlene and her husband, Loren; and one brother, David and his wife, Cathy; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
