Garnet Luella Mae Jorgensen was born April 30, 1928, at Denison, Iowa, the daughter of Emil and Anna Miller. She passed away Friday, January 18, 2019, at Manning Regional Healthcare Center in Manning, Iowa, at the age of ninety.
Garnet was baptized in Christ May 28, 1928, and confirmed her faith May 1, 1941. She received her elementary education at Zion Lutheran School and graduated from Denison High School with the class of 1945.
On August 15, 1948, Garnet was united in marriage to Bernard Jorgensen at Zion Lutheran Church in Denison, Iowa. They lived on various farms until they purchased their own farm south of Manilla. As a farmer’s wife, Garnet was a true helpmate for her husband. Upon retirement from the farm, the couple moved to Denison.
She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Denison and the church’s Fellowship Club and Evening Guild. She also was a member of the Cheerful Group in Denison and the Jefferson Community Club in Irwin. Garnet served her community by being a volunteer for the American Red Cross Bloodmobile for 15 years. Garnet and Bernie enjoyed traveling to different places from coast to coast as well as watching the Ice Follies and dancing, especially at Arcadia. In her leisure time, Garnet found great pleasure in ceramics, water aerobics, gardening, flowers and the company of friends over a cup of coffee.
Garnet was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Bernie in 2018; an infant son, Neil; two sisters, Dorothy and Esther; and one brother, Vernon. Survivors include: one daughter, Lori and her husband, James; two grandchildren, Neil and Grace; other relatives and friends.
