Gary Delaine Meseck the "Ol' Man" was born on July 9, 1947 to Theodore Edgar "Slugger" Jr. and Elvera Ethel (Kroll) Meseck in Ute, Iowa. He was baptized at Zion Lutheran Church in Denison on August 3, 1947, and he later confirmed his faith on April 15, 1962 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Soldier Township. Gary graduated with the class of 1966 in Schleswig, Iowa. He was drafted into the United States Army on September 7, 1966 and served in the Vietnam War until his honorable discharge on August 30, 1968. He then served as a reservist until 1972. While he was on tour in Vietnam, he lost his brother and best friend, Francis in 1967. This was a tragedy that affected Gary deeply.
Gary was united in marriage to Roberta Anderson on February 27, 1976 and two children were born to this union: Alexia and Brandon. Gary operated Meseck Repair in Schleswig and spent many years driving the school bus. He was also employed at Kragel Inc., Farmland Foods, and Denison Livestock Auction. Custom feeding livestock, windrowing hay, and tinkering on older tractors were a few of his other trades. Most recently, he enjoyed working at Bruhn Farms.
Gary was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church and a former member of the Schleswig Fire Department. He enjoyed attending farm auctions with his friend, John Hansen. He could be anywhere at a sale, and someone always recognized him. He loved driving around with a cold one checking up on farm progress. Above all, he cherished spending time with his grandkids. He loved feeding them junk food and seeing just how dirty he could get them before sending them home.
Gary passed away at the Denison Care Center on February 23, 2022 at the age of 74 years, 7 months and 14 days.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents and brothers: Francis and Arlen. He is survived by his children: Alexia Meseck of Oswego, Illinois and Brandon (Kerry) Meseck of Denison; three grandchildren: Reed Meseck, Isla Meseck, and Brentley Cameron; sisters: Linda (Gary) Reimer and Nancy (Terry) Kline both of Schleswig; nieces and nephews: Patricia (Brian) Schechinger, Lisa (Michael) Holloway, Jerrod (Tricia) Reimer, Stacy (Scott) Lindgern, Trevor Kline, and Troy Kline; aunt, Lori Bumann of Schleswig; and many other relatives and friends.
