Georgia Mary Roeder

Georgia Mary Roeder was born on July 27, 1944, the daughter of Elmer and Isabella (Snyder) Lohman in Carroll, Iowa. She was baptized and later confirmed at St. Francis Catholic Church in Maple River. The family lived in Vail, where she attended Catholic elementary school. She graduated from Kuemper Catholic High School in Carroll with the class of 1962. She then went on to work for a local telephone company.

Georgia married Gary Wiges and the couple was blessed with three sons. Many years later, Georgia married Thomas Hickey and they resided in Manilla and subsequently moved to Vail. Later, Georgia married Ron Roeder and made their home in Arthur. The couple dated in high school and reconnected later in life.

Georgia spent time working as a welder and later obtained her degree as a Licensed Practical Nurse She was a member of St. Ann Catholic Church in Vail for many years and later joined the St. Rose of Lima parish. Georgia enjoyed her flowers. She trained her dogs to keep her good company. Her and Ron took every chance they had to travel to different country western music festivals. Her grandkids will especially remember her sharing her love of bingo with them. Above all, she cherished spending time and making memories with her family.

Georgia passed away surrounded by her family on Sunday, August 6, 2023, at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison at the age of 79 years and ten days.

Georgia was preceded in death by her parents and two husbands, Gary Wiges and Tom Hickey. She is survived by her husband, Ron Roeder of Arthur; three sons: Doug (Diana) Wiges and Dave (Carol) Wiges all of Denison, and Dennis (Lisa) Wiges of Belton, Texas; four stepchildren: Nancy (Steve) Schug of Ida Grove, Rick Roeder of Odebolt, Jeff Roeder and Terry Roeder both of Arthur; 17 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; sister, LaVonne Brogan of Sergeant Bluff; and many other relatives and friends.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 10, 2023, at St. Rose of Lima in Denison. The visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. prior to the mass. Interment will take place at the Mt. Olivet Cemetery near Manilla. Memorials may be directed to the family.
