Geraldine A. Oeser

January 9, 1933 — July 30, 2019

Geraldine (Geri) Ann Oeser passed peacefully with her family surrounding her on July 30, 2019. Geri was born on a farm near Wisner, Nebraska to Charles and Ellen (Seeman) Vyborny on January 9, 1933. She attended country school until the age of ten, finished grade school in West Point, Nebraska and graduated from Guardian Angels High School in 1950. She continued her education by attending a business college in Omaha for one year and then was employed at Omaha Public Power District for two years.
She was united in marriage to John (Jack) Oeser on November 21, 1953 at St. Cecilia’s Cathedral in Omaha and resided in Omaha until John’s military discharge in February of 1954. They then moved to the Oeser family farm near Westside, Iowa where they lived for 57 years. They retired and moved to Carroll in 2013.
Geri dearly loved her family, and especially enjoyed when everyone was all together during the holidays. She was very proud of her ten grandchildren’s accomplishments, from academics to sports. As a homemaker, she was an avid cook and baker. She loved gardening, as well as canning and freezing the harvest. It brought her great joy to share the abundance with family and friends. The family relied on her to always bring fresh baked raisin bread and homemade cinnamon rolls, as well as her signature jams and jellies, to the family gatherings. She also enjoyed sewing and crocheting.
The love of her community was evident by her membership in the Legion Auxiliary for over 50 years, St. Ann’s Women’s Group, and Scarlett Belles Red Hat Group. She also spent many years sharing her fresh baked bread with the customers at the Westside Diner. Jack & Geri spent social time with friends during mixed bowling leagues throughout the years.
She is survived by her husband Jack of 65 years and their children Sheryl (Lyle) Podey, Gregg (Lori) Oeser, & Dan Oeser of Westside, Janet (Rollie) Kroeger of Amarillo Texas, Lynn Rittgers of Gowrie, Iowa, & Julie Meisinger of Omaha, Nebraska, and grandchildren Nate (Julie) Podey of Polk City, Iowa, Luke (Kenzie) Podey of Manning, Iowa, Ali (Brett) Pudenz of Breda, Iowa, Derek Oeser of Westside, Josh (Shelby) Kroeger of Canyon, Texas, Garrett Kroeger of Amarillo, Texas, Jaclyn (Skylar) Warehime of Slifer, Iowa, Erica Rittgers of Gowrie, Iowa, Rachel (Bret) Schumacher of Lincoln, Nebraska, and Erin (Mitchell) McCann of Bennington, Nebraska. Great-grandchildren Jada & Jayden Podey, Norah & Bennett Podey, Jack & Coleman Kroeger and Emarie & Ella Pudenz will greatly miss their Grammy O. Her family is extended by many nieces & nephews and their families and sister-in-law Marion Hennings of Council Bluffs, Iowa. She was preceded in death by her parents Charles & Ellen, stepfather Tom Welding, twin sisters Jane Gibney & Joan Stark.
