Geraldine R. Quandt

Geraldine “Gerrie” Rose Quandt was born November 28, 1934, at home in Earling, Iowa, the daughter of Alex and Louise Weis. She passed away Saturday, March 24, 2018, at Eventide Lutheran Home in Denison, Iowa, at the age of eighty-three.
Geraldine was baptized December 2, 1934, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Earling, Iowa, and later confirmed at St. John Lutheran Church in Charter Oak, Iowa. She received her education in the rural school near her home, and later received her GED. She was employed at J.C. Penney, then as a nurse aid at Eventide Lutheran Home before becoming a homemaker, she also helped Glen on the farm. Geraldine was united in marriage to Glen Quandt May 31, 1953, at St. John Lutheran Church in Charter Oak. The couple lived in Anchorage, Alaska, where Glen was stationed in the service, before settling on the farm near Charter Oak.
Flower and vegetable gardening, doing crafts, sewing, canning, cooking and baking, especially raisin cream pies and German potato salad, provided much enjoyment for her. Polka dancing at Schleswig, Arcadia and local dance halls was also a favorite activity. She also enjoyed listening to talk shows, the polka party, socializing with friends, and talking to family and neighbors on the phone. Family history was also very important to her and she was a member of the Crawford County Genealogy Society.
Geraldine was preceded in death by her parents, Alex in 1988 and Louise in 1967; her parents-in-law, George in 1968 and Ida in 1958; and one brother-in-law, Eldred in 2001.
Survivors include: her husband, Glen; two sons, Gordon and his wife, Barb, and Garry and his wife, Rita; two grandchildren, Holly and her husband Zach; and Tyler and his wife, Julie; two great grandchildren, Carson and Colton; one sister, Genevieve; one brother, Delbert and his wife, Carol; other relatives and friends.
