Gertrude Loretta Evers was born February 20, 1925, the daughter of Virgil and Annie Peffer. She died Sunday, February 22, 2015, at Eventide Lutheran Home in Denison, Iowa at the age of ninety.
Gertrude, known to everyone as Gert, was born in Arion, Iowa and attended country schools. On July 15, 1945, she was united in marriage to Ralph Evers, and they were blessed with three children. They made their home on the Evers family farm until 1976, when they moved to Denison. Gert and Ralph enjoyed their family vacations, camping, fishing, and Gert especially enjoyed her daily walks after moving to Denison. Gert made a career of being a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, her family was the highlight of her life. From early on, Gert was known as the “alteration lady”, being a seamstress for many people and businesses including: The Vault, Saturday Night Clothing, and the Male Room. In her leisure time, she enjoyed baking, cooking, embroidering, following the Iowa State Cyclones and Chicago Bulls. Gert had a very strong faith and was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Denison.
Gert was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Ralph in 2008; one sister, Phyllis; and a half brother, Virgil. Survivors include: one son, Terry and his wife Judy; two daughters: Eileen and her husband, Jim; and Lori and her husband, Greg; nine grandchildren: Brian and his wife Rachel; Cathy and her husband Brent; Amy and her husband Mark; Andy and Andrea; Annie and her husband Mike; Tracy and husband Jay; Adam and his wife Amy; Ashley and fianc Matt; Brooke; twenty great-grandchildren: Devon, Alyssa, Dawson, Caitlyn, Emily, Jenna, Dalton, Ashlee, Max, Ava, Tyler, Macie, Nicholas, Charlotte, Caroline, Ellie, Jack, Lola, Ella and Brynlee; many other relatives and friends.
