Gertrude Katherine Christensen was born April 3, 1913, at rural Denison, Iowa, the daughter of John and Katherine Rath. She passed away Saturday, June 24, 2017, at Eventide Lutheran Home in Denison, Iowa, at the age of one hundred four.
Gertrude grew up on the family farm and received her education in the Denison Community Schools. She was baptized in Christ June 8, 1913, and confirmed April 10, 1927, at Zion Lutheran Church in Denison, where she was a life-long member. Gertrude and Harry Christensen were united in marriage March 24, 1935, and they settled on a farm south of Denison, subsequently, moving to Denison in 1986.
Gertrude’s greatest joy was her family. She owned a ceramic shop for twenty years, was a 4-H leader for years and was a member of Homemakers Club. In her leisure time, Gertrude enjoyed flowers, gardening, hand crafts and traveling.
Gertrude was preceded in death by her husband; one daughter, Shirley; one son, Norman ; one grandson, Scott; four brothers, Robert, Herbert, Warner and Walter; and one sister, Clara. Survivors include: one daughter, Marilyn and her husband, Ron; one daughter-in-law, Karen; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one sister, Carmen; and other relatives and friends.
