Gilbert Lewis Loeffler

January 12, 1934 — July 21, 2022

Gilbert Lewis Loeffler was born on January 12, 1934, the son of Raymond Anton and Edna (Hood) Loeffler in Ord, Nebraska. He was baptized and later confirmed his faith at Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Ord. He attended various country schools and Burwell High School in Nebraska. He volunteered for the draft and joined the United States Army. During that time, he served 1.5 years in the Panama Canal Zone. He was honorably discharged in 1957.

Gil married Barbara "Bobbie" Nutt, daughter of William and Annabelle (Bates) Nutt. They made their home in Papillion and five children were born to this union: Brian, Kimberly, Joe, Chris and Megan. After his marriage, he worked several years at Builder's Supply and then went to work six years at Crown Products, all in Ralston. In 1968, he started working for St. Catherine-Bergan Mercy Hospital as an electrician for 28 years, receiving much recognition and many awards for his accomplishments. He retired in 1996. After Barbara passed away, he married Eunice Blum of Panama, Iowa on November 28, 2003.

Gil was most recently a member of St. Mary of Assumption Catholic Church in Panama. He enjoyed traveling and taking pictures. He also liked working with tools, building, fixing and repairing many things, as he called it, "puttering around". He cherished spending time outside and watching the birds. He enjoyed horses and a good western movie.

Gil passed away on Thursday, July 21, 2022, at Myrtue Medical Center in Harlan, Iowa at the age of 88 years, six months and nine days.

Gil was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Barbara Loeffler in 2002; daughter, Megan (Loeffler) Hunt in 2010; granddaughter, Sarah Green; and two sisters, Rosalee Marie Loeffler and Carol Kochanowicz. He is survived by his wife of over 18 years, Eunice Blum of Panama; children: Brian (Lori) Loeffler of Tillamook, Oregon, Kimberly (John) Frady of Bellevue, Nebraska, Joseph (Rita) Loeffler of Omaha, Nebraska, and Christopher Loeffler of Mead, Nebraska; step-children: Joan (Butch) Byers of Tabor, South Dakota, Roger Blum (Kim Marples) of Defiance, Lori (Craig) Oswald of Denver, Colorado, Karen Blum of Yankton, South Dakota and Mary Jo (Jeff) Schmitz of Denver, Colorado; four grandchildren: Mariah Frady, Jesse Frady, Angel Loeffler, and Jayden Hunt; one great-granddaughter, Persephone; 11 step-grandchildren; 13 step-great-grandchildren; brother, Gene (Lucille) Loeffler of Omaha, Nebraska; and many other relatives and friends.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, July 25, 2022, at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church in Panama with visitation from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. in the parish center, prior to mass. Interment will be held at the Portal Cemetery in Omaha, Nebraska. Memorials may be directed to the family.
