Gloria Jean Popp, 86, of Westside, Iowa, passed away on Wednesday, September 26, 2018, at St. Anthony’s Nursing Home in Carroll, Iowa.
Gloria was born on March 24, 1932, in Carroll, Iowa, a daughter of Henry and Loretta Boldt. Gloria attended rural schools and graduated from Carroll High School in 1949. She then worked at Iowa Public Service. On June 1, 1952, Gloria married Merlyn D. Lenz. After his return from the Korean War, they started farming with his father south of Westside and later moved north of Vail in 1955, to start farming on their own. They were blessed with five children. Merlyn passed away in 1973, but Gloria continued to farm with her family until she moved to Westside in 1989. On May 9, 1992, Gloria married Lester W. Popp and continued to live in Westside.
Gloria was an active member of Zion Lutheran Church of Arcadia where she was involved with Ladies Aid and served as an officer. She was also a past board member of South Crawford REC and WIPCO. Gloria was involved in her community by volunteering through many clubs and organizations.
Gloria is survived by five children, Jean (James) Koenck of Auburn, CA, Dale (Nicky) Lenz of Vail, IA, Lori (Stan) Musfeldt of Manning, IA, Cheryl (Paul) Clayton of Aurora, CO, Gary (Shelli) Lenz of Vail, IA; five grandchildren - Nick Muhlbauer, Kyle (Brooke) Lenz, Rachel (Brock) Travis, McKayla Clayton, Daniel Clayton; six great grandchildren - Sydney, Cassidy, Simon, and Peter Muhlbauer, and Claire and Levi Lenz.
Gloria is also survived by Lester’s four children: Brenda (Quentin) Hartman of Alpena, MI, Susanne Brotherson of Carroll, IA, Lorene (Steve) Blazek of Denton, TX, and Brian (Terry) Popp of Omaha, NE; nine grandchildren; and eight great grandchildren. Survivors also include sister LeeAnn Musfeldt; brother David (Jane) Boldt; brother-in-law Ron (Cindy) Lenz; sisters-in-law Shirley (Leonard) Walde and Karen (Brinson) Sangster.
Gloria is preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Merlyn and Lester; a brother and sister in infancy; sister Lois Struve; brothers-in-law Glen Struve, Glenn Lenz, Larry Lenz, Tom Musfeldt; and step-son Curt Brotherson.
