Gloria Jean Vaughn

Gloria Jean Vaughn was born August 1, 1945, the daughter of Ivan and Catherine (Garvey) Ortwine. She was born in Farmington Hills, Michigan. She received her education from Farmington Hills Community School and graduated with the Class of 1964.

On August 17, 1968, Gloria was united in marriage to Robert Vaughn I in her mother's backyard in Farmington Hills, Michigan. The couple was blessed with the birth of three children, Cheryl Lynn, Rebecca Jean and Robert Arthur II. In 1969, the couple moved to Iowa where she continued to raise her children. Gloria worked as a cook at KFC, Jasper's, and then Cronk's Café in Denison for many years.

She was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who loved watching food shows and spending time with her family. In her spare time, she liked to go fishing, drinking beer, and socializing with her neighbors. She also enjoyed traveling; most recently traveling with her daughter to see the Mackinac Bridge in Michigan.

Gloria passed away peacefully, with her daughter and her companion Jack by her side, on Friday, July 14, 2023 at her home in Denison attaining the age of 77 years, 11 months, and 13 days. Gloria was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Robert Vaughn I; one infant daughter, Cheryl Vaughn; one stepson, Richard Vaughn; sister, Nancy Ortwine; and brother, William Ortwine.

Survivors include one daughter, Rebecca Friedrichsen and Logan McCullough of Schleswig and Rebecca's husband, Bruce Friedrichsen of Vail; one son, Robert Vaughn II of Denison; grandchildren: Sarah and her husband Derek Lilleholm of Kiron and Jennifer Friedrichsen of Denison; great-grandchildren: Kyza, Whyitt, and Mylee Lilleholm and Adrian and Gabriel Carey; many nieces, nephews, in-laws; other relatives and friends.

Visitation with Family Greeting Friends will be held from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 22, 2023 at the Huebner Funeral Home in Denison with a funeral service starting at 3:00 p.m. Memorials may be directed to the family and mailed to Rebecca Friedrichsen - PO Box 9, Schleswig, IA 51461.
