Grace Abbott

Grace Abbott passed away in Boone, Iowa May 18, 2013. Grace was born on August 18, 1921 in Vail, Iowa. She was the daughter of Tracy Thomas North and Ethel Huckstep North. She is preceded in death by her parents, her loving husband of 57 years, Clair Abbott, and her siblings, brothers Leonard Baker, Earl North and Allen North and sister Jewell North Van Dusen.
Grace is survived by her two children, Jean Kay Abbott and David Clair Abbott, three grandchildren, Kellie Howard, Jennifer Daley and Clayton Abbott and four great-grandchildren.
Grace attended a small country school in Vail and graduated in 1940. She attended Buena Vista College where she met Clair Abbott. They were married September 14, 1941. They moved to Boone, Iowa in 1953. Grace served as an Elder and Deacon at the First Presbyterian Church. She was a charter member of the Railroad Historical Society, a member of the Mamie Eisenhower questors, a member of the Church Circle and N. P. P.E.O.
Grace owned Junior Fashions in Boone for 31 years. Grace and Clair were active members of the community, were loving parents and grandparents. They enjoyed many wonderful trips in the United States and England and wintered in Mesa, Arizona for many years.
