Grace Frances Lappe was born October 28, 1917, the daughter of Frank and Bessie Bennett White. She died Monday, June 9, 2014, at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison, Iowa, at the age of ninety-six.
Grace was born in Ralston, Iowa. She received her education in the Glidden Community School and graduated from the Glidden High School with the class of 1933. On July 13, 1934, she was united in marriage to Clarence Lappe. They made their home on a farm near Carroll, Iowa for five years, before moving to a farm near Lake City, Iowa. In 1942, the family moved to a farm near Vail, Iowa, until moving to the city of Vail in 1993. Due to failing health Grace moved to Silverridge Assisted Living in Denison on June 7, 2012.
Grace was a loving and caring mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who enjoyed sewing and cooking for her family. She also enjoyed baking and decorating cakes. She was a member of St. Ann Catholic Church in Vail, Homemakers Club, and several card clubs. Grace was a volunteer for the Crawford County Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and Cancer Society.
Grace was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Clarence; one son, James; son-in-law, Duane; one granddaughter, Teresa; two brother, Russell and Robert. Survivors include: one son, Clarence Jr. and his wife, Donna; three daughters, Lois; Linda and her husband, Louis; and Jane and her husband, Steve; fourteen grandchildren and twenty-two great grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
